Now that I am about to embark on my next set of exciting travels I think its fitting to start the blog up again!
Right now I am currently sitting on the lovely floor of SFO watching people stand in line to board our flight to Heathrow that has been delayed an hr already and not everyone is on the plane...so not very promising...any ways this travel journey part II is going to be a nice long one because I get to study abroad in Madrid for spring quarter wahoo! However the start to this journey has already been a little rocky here are the basic time lines of my traveling so far:
- 6:10 - arrive at SFO super early (so we wouldnt get stuck in rush hr traffic, my flight was to leave at 8:50) use the internet on my laptop to check in and pay for my suitcase bc its cheaper than at the desk
- 6:20 - stand in line for about 15 min
- 6:30 - 8 - the drama beings....
- first off the flight is delayed an hr...not too bad BUT, that means that I will not be able to make my connection from London to Malaga
- to make matters worse that flight to Malaga was the last one that day
- lets take a little detour and explore what my plans were and why this almost made me cry upon hearing it...
- fly from sfo --> london --> malaga --1.5sh hr bus--> granada --sleep the night & store big luggage at tjs homestay --> fly to Paris the next morning! ambitious i know but hey gotta make the most of everything :]
- so now I was starting to freak out slightly as the gate agent told me they could put me up in a hotel and I could do the flight the next day...but obviously that would not mesh with the paris plans so then the brainstorming began
- after going through a bunch of options, one of which would have required me to take an hr long bus transfer between heathrow and gatwick and fly from there to malaga (but they could not promise me I would have enough time...) another would require flying lufthansa to germany then to madrid then to malaga blah...
- the FINAL CHOICE!! drum roll please....
- stay on same flight to Heathrow, have a 2 hr layover in heathrow, fly to Madrid, hr layover, then fly to Granada arriving at 11 at night (and of course then going through customs and what not) BUT at least that got rid of the 2 hr bus ride right??
- going through this all I went from regular check in desk, to booking line and booking desk, back to check in desk - playing the game of how many people does it take to create a new flight plan!
- so after all this drama as I am sleep deprived and sick and on the verge of tears the whole time trying not to think of how this complicates my life, I ask if I could at least get an upgrade because I have also overheard the agents telling other people the flight is sold out and currently I do not have a seat because they had to change my reservation - GAH!
- 8-8:15 - make my way through security and to the gate
- 8:15-9:30 - thank goodness for SFO free wifi! bc at least I was able to notify everyone mainly, TJ and mother dearest about all the flight changes and what the new plan was
- 9:30 - GOOD NEWS! I get called up to get my seat assignment and the original guy who was checking me in and who I asked for an upgrade said that YES! they were able to move me to economy plus! wahoooo
- 9:50 - I get to explore my new upgraded seat, way more leg room and width in the seat, a leg rest that comes up from the seat, a greater recline than regular economy, and a little remote thing for the TV!
---TIME CHANGE! ---
Now I am in Heathrow looking at the flight board waiting for it to tell me what time my flight to Madrid boards and it said it would let us know already but lucky me my flight is delayed 10 min. When I first saw this I went to the airline desk right away asking if they thought it would become a larger delay bc I could not miss my connection in Madrid, they said probably not because the flight was already in the air..but I am a little skeptical because they have not announced the gate yet and it is 45 min before the new delayed departure time. However they did tell me good news that my connection would be in the same terminal so at least I can be super speedy getting off the plane and making my way to my final plane!
Bummer there is no free wifi in Heathrow, they should learn from SFO! But I already knew this from my summer adventures in this airport. This just means I will have to upload this post another time when I have internet access.
